The foundations of the fort date back to 700 years ago. It had a lot of rebuilds and alterations over the centuries. The Mirs of Hunza abandoned the forst in 1945 and moved to a new palace down the hill. The forst is now a museum run by the Baltit Hertiage Trust and is a must visit.
